When was the last time that you really thought about an image for more than 10 minutes before pressing the shutter.... ?
In this day of endless digital capture we are in danger of suffering from image overload with what we capture and the sheer number of images created. Our appreciation and connection with individual images is becoming impossible and so often technology can obstruct our true creativity.
This small group photography workshop session is an opportunity to slow down and get back to the basics of image capture on a more personal level. Working together and alone we explore what an image means to us and if we are attempting to capture an emotion or something that has some significance, or is it simply an artistic representation.
This style of workshop is often referred to as 'Mindfulness Photography' which has become something of a buzz word for a deeper level of personal image creation.
So how do we achieve this ?
In these sessions we will be using a range of cameras from smart phones to dslr's and also simple film cameras. Capturing with film creates a discipline that forces us to consider every single frame and to enable a deeper connection with an image. Also after developing we will have our negative in our hand for final printing, a physical entity rather than just another digital file..
The second optional day gives us the opportunity to turn our negatives into an alternative print using Salt or Cyanotype processes. I believe that producing a paper print is the best way to fully connect with our creativity.
...no prior film camera experience is required and this NOT intended as training in film photography, but you will learn to appreciate the process and the benefits that working with film brings.
If you do not have a film camera we can supply one along with the film and its processing (35mm or 120 roll B&W )
